Security Club Jackets are done, but we are waiting for John to pick them up. Make sure you check with John S. to see if they are in. Bugging him might motivate him to pick them up.

The SourceFire presentation was canceled this past Friday. We are looking to have this presentation rescheduled.
The poster is going to be a promotion for our demonstration on network security on {December 2nd} 2009 from 4:30 until 5:30 with potential demonstrations until 6pm. The poster should include information listed in the previous post about what we are presenting on as well as listing the time and date, the winner will be used to promote our event around campus so make sure it’s appropriate and images used are legal. Turn it in by November 18th and the winner will be entitled to a free voucher per John Sands. Any additional questions ask Tom or John, and good luck to you all!
Some things we went over at today’s meeting included
1. Free software on security awareness
2. Poster Contest time! get your designs in for great prizes! Make sure you promote our demonstration, catchy slogan might put you over the top!

As of now we have started to pick out a few different focal points for the upcoming competitions. Tenative assignments have been made, mostly at random if you weren’t around or vocal I picked one for you, it’s up to you to change it or figure out what else you can do.
Linux- Jim/Jason
Samba- Jake / Tom
Windows Server- Nick/Chris
IDS- Snort- Joe/ Jason
IDS- BSD- Evin / Tom
CVS server- Jake/Tom
Exchange- Joe/ Rob
For now that’s all I can assign as that was told to me/ i wrote down, i may have missed or confused some or added people who had nothing to do with it, but like i said its a tenative list. Next week we’ll break down into groups and work on researching our topics, those with major questions can then come to me and I’ll work on a having a series of presentations by various professors and adjuncts focused on that particular subject. Any questions? ask Tom he will be glad to answer them. Cheers!

Hey guys just a reminder that the NetRiders competition is this week! If you haven’t already be sure to link you and your partners’ names together on the website and get ready to do your best at the competition! Good luck to all of you! That said this next week will begin our actual security focus for the club so those who were sitting out can definately participate this week, as far as I can tell food will not be provided this time (sorry for the false advertising but funds are not as limitless as they had been presented apparently.) Regardless we might have an after party this week location tbd. Hope to see you all there!
There is no official meeting this Friday, we have also changed the official meeting time to 5:00 pm on Wednesday nights. Be sure to tell your friends! Bring a friend! If you know a girl, bring her too! We will have food again (Peppo’s was mentioned, great sandwiches) and we’re still waiting on the logos for the group to be finished. But we have shirts ready, just need sizes for everyone. If you haven’t entered it yet, please get those to me, you can e-mail me at mvccnsg@gmail.com. Also feel free to leave any insights you have in the comment boxes whether or not they are related to this post.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday from 4:30-5:30. Stop on by as we will be reviewing basic network setup, such as setting up DHCP, DNS, and a website on Microsoft IIS.
Also: come see our booth in Quad from 11am – 2:30pm!
